During 2010, a number of our CAP schools are involved in a CAP Network Initiative, entitled Boys on the Move, focused on further development of literacy, numeracy, planning, designing and building processes for the construction of a billy cart, technology and cooperative learning for boys . Billy Cart Derby day will be held on Tuesday 14 September at the Warialda Recreation Ground commencing at 9.00 am
School teams of five students will be involved in a range of billy cart races throughout the day and will present for assessment a portfolio outlining their work. School and community spectators are welcome to attend.
STUDENT TECHNOLOGY CAMPS
Three Student Technology Camps are being conducted in 2010: Thursday Friday, 12- 13 August at Lake Keepit Thursday-Friday, 26-27 August at Lake Keepit Thursday-Friday, 2-3 September at Copeton Dam
The theme for these camps mirrors the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity theme.
Students will participate in technology workshops focused on Kahootz or NewsMaker, Audacity, Crazy Talk, and programmable Robotics.
as well as a workshop on enhanced understanding of persuasive texts.
Their presentations will focus on preserving endangered species and environments, and involve the construction of persuasive texts using animations, podcasts and sound tracks. These presentations will be shared with one another at the conclusion of each camp.
There will be a robotics challenge during which students will demonstrate how well they have programmed their robots to negotiate a challenge course.
THINKING BRAIN STUDENT WORKSHOPS - SECOND DAY
The second day for the Thinking Brain student workshops will be presented on: Tuesday 12 October at the Max Centre Moree Thursday 21 October at Sir Henry Parkes memorial School Tenterfield (please note this is a change of date from the previous week for the Tenterfield workshop only) .
LITERACY INITIATIVE - STUDENT WRITERS' FESTIVAL BY VC

Due to a clash with the new date for the CAP Development Day at Inverell, the Student Writers' Festival VC will now be held on Monday 18 October.
It will provide opportunity for students to share their written pieces of work with other students via video conference.
Time will be announced shortly.

a presentation by a high profile keynoter speaker - Amantha Imber (Creativity and Innovation Psychologist)
As an innovative speaker Amanda's focus is on providing practical techniques on how people can immediately unlock their creativity, enhance creativity and innovation in work and life, and getting people's minds unstuck.

Dates for all the workshops to be conducted during 2010 as part of our CAP Network Initiatives are on the CAP Professional Learning Calendar on the CAP website and you are encouraged to check the network initiatives for which you expressed interest, note the relevant dates and begin registering for these workshops and booking the necessary teacher relief for your school.
Catholic Schools- Catholic Schools continue to be required to draft a separate CAP Plan within the CAPStrategy website, accessed on the CAP website. The 2010 budget figures have not been placed on the Budget page yet but the Strategy page is available for inserting the various initiatives your school has planned. If anyone needs support in relation to the use of CAP Strategy please contact Toni or me.
DET Schools- There is no longer a requirement to draft a separate CAP Plan for DET schools. Your use of CAP funds must be shown clearly in your School Improvement Plan. DET schools may continue to use CAPStrategy as a planning tool if they wish, but this is not compulsory.
A copy of the DET (final version) and Catholic (final version) Guidelines documents have been forwarded to all schools via email for such access as may be relevant.The draft Catholic Guidelines have been approved now and a final copy will be made available to as soon as we have access to it.
